A family is asking for the public’s help in locating Max W. Roth Downie, a 33-year-old man who has been reported missing in Northern California.

According to information shared by his family, a missing-person report was filed with the San Mateo Police Department on Friday, September 4, 2026. The family has also contacted the Burlingame Police Department and San Mateo police regarding his disappearance.

Max, who also goes by Max William Downie, was born on September 22, 1992, in San Francisco. He is described as approximately 6 feet tall, weighing about 175 pounds, with a medium build, dirty-blond hair and hazel eyes.

Last Known Information

The family says Max was last known to be in the Burlingame/San Francisco area. He does not drive and could potentially be travelling by train, walking or visiting a club or bar.

His family has also mentioned a possible connection to the Excelsior area of San Francisco, although details surrounding his last known whereabouts remain unclear.

Before contact was lost, Max reportedly told his mother, “I love you, Mom,” and discussed going to Crepevine in Burlingame for his birthday, including asking whether he could come home.

His family says his phone is no longer accepting messages and is increasingly concerned about his wellbeing.

Public Asked to Share Information

Anyone who sees Max or has information about his whereabouts is asked to encourage him to contact his family or the police.

The family has provided San Mateo Police Department reference #2609040126 in connection with the missing-person report.

Anyone with information should contact law enforcement rather than attempting to locate or approach him themselves. The family is urging people across Burlingame, San Mateo County and San Francisco to share the appeal in hopes that someone may recognize Max and help bring him home safely.
