Louis Meehan Shooting, Punchbowl NSW Death – Boxing Coach, Son Of Kali Meehan Gunned Down Outside Gym

Louis Meehan, a prominent boxing coach and the son of former professional boxer Kali Meehan, was shot dead outside the Punchbowl Community Centre in southwest Sydney on Wednesday evening.

Meehan, 32, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died in the car park of the community centre. At the time of the shooting, about a dozen children were inside receiving tutorial lessons, raising concerns about the potential danger to members of the public.

Police have described the shooting as targeted and are investigating possible links between Meehan and outlaw motorcycle gangs in Queensland. Acting Assistant Commissioner Grant Taylor said Meehan was known to police and had connections to outlaw motorcycle gangs and various types of crime.

However, investigators do not currently believe the shooting was connected to an ongoing feud between two organised crime networks responsible for several other recent shootings in Sydney.

Police are searching for a single shooter. A silver Lexus sedan believed to have been involved in the incident was later found abandoned in nearby Bass Hill. Unlike vehicles connected to some previous targeted shootings, the Lexus was not burned, giving investigators hope that forensic evidence may be recovered.

Authorities are also examining why Meehan was in Sydney, as he frequently travelled to Queensland and had ongoing interactions with police and the community there.

Meehan had previously been involved in rugby league and spent time in the Sydney Roosters’ system. He played 23 games in the club’s National Youth Cup in 2013 alongside players including Braden Uele and Kurt Capewell, although he did not progress to the NRL team. His brother Willis also played one NRL match for the Roosters in 2014.

Both brothers later moved into boxing following their rugby league careers.

The fatal shooting comes amid broader concern over gangland violence in Sydney, with NSW authorities pursuing proposed legal reforms targeting organised crime.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Meehan’s death and are working to identify those responsible for the shooting.
