CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand — Friends and teammates are mourning the unexpected death of Brett Hayston, who died on Monday after suffering a heart attack at home. He was 43.

News of Brett’s passing has left those who knew him struggling to come to terms with the loss of a friend described as a larger-than-life personality, a loyal mate and, above all, a genuinely good person.

Tributes shared following his death recalled Brett as someone who loved a laugh and was never afraid to give his friends a hard time. His presence brought energy and humor wherever he went, ensuring there was rarely a dull moment when he was around.

Remembered as a Loyal Friend

While Brett was known for his sense of humor, friends also emphasized the loyalty and generosity that defined his relationships.

He was described as someone who would do anything for his mates and who was always there when someone needed help. Friends remembered how he often put others before himself and made people feel supported.
