Authorities identified the victim as Collin Salmon, 30, of Great Barrington, Massachusetts, who previously resided in Warren, Connecticut.

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon in an area known as St. John’s Ledges, a popular rock-climbing destination located near the Appalachian Trail along River Road in Kent. Emergency responders were dispatched after receiving reports of a climber who had fallen while ascending the rocky terrain.

According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Environmental Conservation Police officers responded to the scene alongside members of the Connecticut State Police. First responders worked to reach the injured climber and provide assistance before arranging for his transport to a local medical facility.

Salmon was transported to New Milford Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
