CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — David Kahn died peacefully yesterday afternoon, with his children by his side, leaving behind family, friends and a life partner who described him as her great love and an extraordinary gift in her life. David’s passing marks the end of a deeply meaningful relationship defined by devotion, laughter, plans for the future and a love that profoundly changed the people who experienced it. Remembering David Kahn Trish spent the two nights before David died with him at the hospital. Though heavily medicated, he reached out his arms when she came beside his bed, inviting her into an embrace. Even in those final days, they made plans together — places they wanted to go for dinner, trips they hoped to take and where they might eventually live. Those plans now remain among the memories Trish will carry with her. She described David as her “great love,” an imperfect, off-kilter, unique and brilliant life partner who loved her with an unconditional, wholehearted devotion. Their relationship, she said, changed who she was at the deepest level. A Love That Will Remain Trish believes David may visit her in the middle of the night to say goodbye, reassure her that she will be okay and tell her that he will be okay too. She also knows exactly what he would tell her to do next: finish her novel. She intends to do so and dedicate the book to him. The final voicemail Trish received from David carried a simple but powerful message. He repeated her name: “Trish Lear. Trish Lear. Trish Lear.” Now, in the aftermath of his passing, she answers with his: “David Kahn. David Kahn. David Kahn.” Family and Friends Mourn David leaves behind his children, family, friends and the woman who shared a profound love with him. For those mourning him in Chicago and beyond, his memory will live through the stories, plans, laughter and moments shared during his life. His death leaves an immeasurable absence, but also a lasting reminder of the rare kind of love that can fundamentally change a person’s life. May David Kahn rest peacefully, and may his memory remain a source of love and strength to everyone who knew him.
