Laura Blake Accident Cape Town, SA Death-Obituary – Family Mourns Cyclist After Fatal Crash

The cycling community is mourning the death of Laura Blake, who died from complications related to serious injuries sustained when she was struck by a vehicle during a cycling ride in Cape Town.

Blake was travelling with a group that had left Bootleggers in Tokai and had covered less than two kilometres when she was hit from behind by a vehicle shortly before the entrance to the Blue Route Mall parking area.

Critical Injuries After Crash

Blake suffered extensive injuries in the collision, including a shattered pelvis, a broken elbow, fractures to her C7 and C9 vertebrae and six broken ribs.

She was admitted to an intensive care unit in critical condition, where she remained in a coma and on ventilator support while medical teams monitored her condition.

Despite treatment and medical intervention, Blake ultimately died from complications associated with the injuries she suffered in the crash.

Updates about her condition had been provided to the Pedal Power Association (PPA) by her husband, Gary Pomario.

Investigation Escalated to Culpable Homicide

Following Blake’s death, the South African Police Service investigation was escalated from reckless and negligent driving to a charge of culpable homicide.

The development comes as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision and as the case moves forward through the legal process.

PPA CEO Neil Robinson expressed concern over the dangers faced by road users and called for serious consequences for unlawful behaviour on South African roads.

The organisation has extended its condolences to Blake’s family and friends while continuing to support them during the legal proceedings.
