Sharon Bradford Obituary, Belfast Death – BBC NI Journalist Mourned by Colleagues

The BBC Northern Ireland community is mourning the death of Sharon Bradford-Giaccardi, a talented and highly regarded news producer who was remembered by colleagues for her kindness, humour and calming presence in the newsroom.

Bradford-Giaccardi, originally from Ballinamallard and later of Ardenlee Parade in Belfast, died peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

Sharon Bradford-Giaccardi Remembered

Tributes from former and current BBC colleagues have described Sharon as a much-loved figure within the newsroom and a person who brought warmth and reassurance to those around her.

Former BBC news anchor Donna Traynor remembered her as a talented news producer and a “kind and courageous soul,” while also expressing sympathy for Sharon’s husband, Thierry, and their children.

BBC agriculture correspondent Louise Cullen described the loss as devastating for colleagues, recalling Sharon as someone who was always ready with a witty comment, a laugh and a solution when difficult situations arose.

Cullen also remembered travelling with Sharon on assignments, including election counts and the BBC’s coverage surrounding the death and funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in London in 2022.

She described Sharon as one of the best and said her loss had left the BBC community deeply heartbroken.

Family Mourns

Sharon was the much-loved daughter of the late Wesley and Elizabeth. She was the cherished wife of Thierry and devoted mother of Lucie and her husband Gabriele, Samuel and Marco.

She was also the dear sister of the late Ian.

Her death has brought profound sadness to her family, friends and former colleagues, many of whom are now remembering her contribution to BBC Northern Ireland and the lasting impression she made on those around her.

Service of Thanksgiving

A Service of Thanksgiving for Sharon’s life is scheduled to take place at Magheracross Parish Church on Friday, followed by a private family interment.

As colleagues and loved ones gather to remember Sharon, tributes continue to highlight not only her work as a journalist but also the kindness, humour and compassion she brought to the people around her.
