Wyatt Sibley Obituary, Calhoun, IL Death – Family and Community Mourn 19-Year-Old

CALHOUN COUNTY — Labor Day is taking on a painful meaning for families and communities in Greene and Calhoun counties following two separate car accidents that have left one man fighting for his life and another family mourning the loss of a young man.

Nineteen-year-old Wyatt Sibley, a member of the Calhoun County community, died following an accident, according to tributes shared by those who knew him. His death has left his family, friends, coaches and community grieving a young man remembered for his hard work, character and bright future.

Remembering Wyatt Sibley

Sibley began working as an ironworker shortly after graduating from high school, reflecting the strong work ethic that friends and those close to him say defined him.

One coach who knew Wyatt personally described him as much more than a talented athlete. He was remembered as a great young man who was a pleasure to coach and watch grow.

Wyatt was also an accomplished shooter and earned a place on the SCTP All-State Team, an achievement his coach described as a moment of tremendous pride.

But his abilities were only part of what made him special.

His coach recalled the hours spent together as a shooting team, saying the group became more like a family. They shared successes, supported one another through disappointments and created memories that would remain with them.

Wyatt was an important part of that team family.

A Community in Mourning

The loss has been especially painful for those who had the opportunity to coach, mentor and grow alongside Wyatt.

Tributes describe the difficulty of accepting that he is gone and the wish for one more conversation, practice or opportunity to tell him how proud they were of him.

His family and friends are now mourning the loss of a son, brother, nephew, cousin and dear friend.

Remembering Two Hardworking Men

Wyatt’s death came as another Greene County family continued praying for John Grafford, who remained in his 11th day of recovery following a separate car accident.

Grafford works his regular job while also operating a trash business on the side. His family and friends continue to pray for complete healing of his spinal cord and hope for the day he can return home.

This Labor Day, both stories have brought Greene and Calhoun counties together in grief, hope and prayer.

Wyatt Sibley leaves behind memories that his family, friends, coaches and community say will never be forgotten. His legacy will live on through the people he influenced, the team that considered him family and the many lives touched by his presence.
